bFGF is a member of the fibroblast growth factor (FGF) family and is a growth factor and signaling protein encoded by the FGF2 gene. Members of the FGF family exhibit broad mitogenic and cell-survival activities and are involved in various biological processes, including embryonic development, cell proliferation, morphogenesis, tissue repair, tumor growth, and invasion. In normal tissues, bFGF is present in the basement membrane and in the extracellular matrix beneath vascular endothelial cells.

bFGF (FGF-2) is an essential component of all embryonic stem cell and induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) culture media, where it plays a critical role in maintaining pluripotency. However, wild-type FGF-2 is prone to proteolytic degradation and aggregation, making it inherently unstable. As a result, it has a short half-life in culture media and requires frequent medium changes.

 Thermostable FGF-2 variants are engineered through specific amino acid substitutions that enhance stability without compromising biological activity. Among these, the thermostable FGF-2 mutant G3 exhibits significantly improved stability compared with wild-type FGF-2. Recombinant human FGF2 G3 is a 17.3 kDa protein composed of 155 amino acids.

This product provides recombinant human FGF2-G3 in lyophilized form, featuring high activity, high purity, low endotoxin levels, and no extraneous tags.

Storage

This product should be stored at -25~-15℃ for 1 year. After reconstitution, store at 2~8°C for 30 days. After reconstitution, store at -85~-65°C for 3 months.

Instructions

1. Centrifuge the vial briefly before opening to ensure all contents are collected at the bottom. 

2. Reconstitute with sterile distilled water to a final concentration of 0.1–1.0 mg/mL.

3. Further dilute as needed for downstream applications. For long-term storage, it is recommended to include a carrier protein (e.g., 0.1% BSA) in the dilution buffer. Aliquot into single-use portions and store at –80 °C. Avoid repeated freeze–thaw cycles.
