YeaRed is a unique, lipophilic macromolecular nucleic acid dye that cannot penetrate cell membranes and therefore does not enter living cells. It exhibits negligible volatility and sublimation, minimizing the risk of inhalation exposure. Ames testing has confirmed that YeaRed is completely non-mutagenic at standard gel staining concentrations, making it a safe and non-toxic alternative to ethidium bromide (EB).

YeaRed shares identical spectral properties with EB and can be visualized using standard UV transilluminators equipped with 300 nm excitation without requiring any changes to filters or imaging equipment. It is compatible with both agarose and polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis for staining double-stranded DNA (dsDNA), single-stranded DNA (ssDNA), and RNA. Users may choose either pre-cast staining (gel casting method) or post-electrophoresis staining (soak staining method), offering flexibility and convenience.
