Human placental lactogen (abbreviated PL or hPL), also known as chorionic somatoprolactin hormone 1 (abbreviated CSH1), is a member of the prolactin/growth hormone (PRL/GH) family. Human PL shares 98% aa identity with chimpanzee PL and >85% aa sequence identity with other human growth hormones. However, it shares only 25% aa identity with mouse, sheep or cattle PL. PL is mainly expressed by cells of the syncytiotrophoblast layer of the placenta, which produce increasing amounts of PL as pregnancy progresses. The main part enters the maternal circulation, where it binds to GH2 (placenta-specific GH) and replaces the function of pituitary GH during pregnancy. Small amounts of PL circulate in the fetus. Primate PL shows high affinity for PRL receptors and low affinity for GH receptors. Reduced stimulation of PL by angiotensin 2 is associated with intrauterine growth restriction.

Storage

Store at -25~-15℃, valid for 1 year after receipt. After reconstitution, store at 2~8 °C, valid for 7 days. After reconstitution, store at -85~-65℃, valid for 3 months.

Reconstitution method

Centrifuge before opening. Use sterile distilled water to reconstitute the lyophilized protein, and the reconstitution concentration should exceed 100 μg/mL. Do not use vortexing to assist dissolution, mix upside down. It is recommended to divide the protein into the amount for each experiment when using it for the first time to avoid repeated freezing and thawing.
